The right way to do it
Any risk assessment or the use of an appropriate item of access equipment will, of course, only guarantee the desired level of safety if the respective aid to access is in a fully functional condition.
For this reason, a regular inspection of access equipment is not only recommended but is also prescribed in law.
Every business owner is required to appoint a “competent person for ladders and mobile scaffolding” to be responsible for checking all access equipment regularly and ensuring that it is in an orderly condition.
The legal principle:
Extract from the Workplace Safety Regulations (BetrSichV):
§ 10 Inspection of Working Equipment:
(2) Where working equipment is exposed to influences that cause damage and which could lead to hazardous situations, the employer must have the working equipment inspected and, if necessary, tested at the intervals specified following the hazard analysis by persons competent to do so
Seminars for enhanced safety
The “qualification to inspect access equipment” may also be obtained by attending an appropriate seminar. ZARGES offer seminars of this nature at a range of training locations. Further information and forthcoming dates can be found on the Internet at
Testing for enhanced safety
An item of access equipment must be inspected at different intervals depending on the operating conditions and load / frequency of use. Under special circumstances, even daily inspection may be advisable.
Service for enhanced safety
By way of a special service, ZARGES offers a special check sheet for each item of access equipment to simplify proper and fault-free inspection.
Regardless of this, prior to using an item of access equipment, the user must give some thought to its condition and suitability. The equipment must be handled with care during daily usage and must be protected against contaminants and atmospheric influences.
