The right material for shaft ladders
Whether you decide to use a ladder made of steel, stainless steel or GRP depends on the place of use and cost factors. The cheapest type of shaft ladders is definitely those made of steel. However, the low-maintenance material is not suitable for use in aggressive environments, e.g. wastewater treated with chlorine. In shafts with electrical installations, GRP shaft ladders should be used to avoid any unwanted electrical sparks. Stainless-steel shaft ladders are recommended for applications in permanently damp and wet environments.
Shaft ladders have to comply with specific standards
Only shaft ladders that comply with the EU standard DIN EN 14396 are allowed to be used. They must also be properly set up and installed using appropriate wall brackets and floor mounts.
